Murray Lytle, MASc, P.Eng.

Murray grew up on a ski hill in British Columbia, Canada and lived his formative years in the rather large and sinister shadow cast by Cominco Ltd. Skiing would have been a lot more fun as a career but the salary scope at the North Star Ski Hill was limited so he left town to experience the big city of Vancouver and obtain an engineering degree in the process. Metaphorically shaking the dust from his feet, it was determined that Cominco and Kimberley would play a very limited role in the development of his future. Six years later he was back in Kimberley working for Cominco. Some hooks are hard to pull out. And the year he spent as an engineer-in-training in Kimberley was the first year that the snow failed and the ski hill didn’t open! It was a portent whose significance was missed. Anyway.. the resume follows.

• OSLO Project, Calgary, AB: Senior engineer providing project and business management services to $5 billion oil sands mining project. Responsible for permitting and construction of $3 million bulk sample quarry; facility site selection and adjacent lease owner negotiations; $200 million of product and interconnecting pipelines; managing the communication between project Owners and project team; developing the model for incremental project economic determinations (1988–1991)

• El Cerrejon Project, INTERCOR, Colombia: Senior Advisor - Established and led the drilling and blasting engineering team. Introduced and developed a unique blasting enhancement resulting in operating savings of +$1 million per year.  (1985 – 1988)

• Coal Department, Calgary, AB: Mine Development Engineer responsible for mine engineering and project evaluation studies. Introduced computer design to the Byron Creek expansion project. (1980 – 1985)

• Fording River Coal Mine: Production Foreman responsible for the productivity of three shift bosses and 65 mine employees. Consistently improved shift productivity and maintained excellent industrial relations. Organized and supervised a new mine services group which increased equipment efficiency by 10%.
